deep fried sushi rice squares

Not sure what to do with leftover rice? We’ve got a quick snack the will surely ‘rice’ to the occassion!

Try these fun deepfried sushi rice squares topped with shredded tuna, making it the perfect sweet, tangy and savoury treat!

With all the ingredients available at our Econo Foods stores, either in-store or online

Directions

  1. Heat vinegar, sugar and salt together in a microwave-safe glass container for 1 minute and then stir until sugar is dissolved and set aside to slightly cool.

  2. Add vinegar mixture to the warm rice and stir until the mixture is well incorporated. Add corn flour and mix. The rice should start clumping together.

  3. Grab the warm rice mixture and mold it into a triangular, square or round shape with your hands, making sure to compact the rice as much as possible to stop the rice from falling apart when you fry it. Keep at least one side flat so you can fry it easily.

  4. Fry the rice squares in a hot slightly oiled pan for 3 minutes on each side or until a crispy crust forms.

  5. Serve topped with the tuna mixture and soy sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked Allsome rice (warmed up)

  • 2 Tbsp Liberty Cornflour

  • Rice Vinegar
    60ml

  • 2 Tbsp Sugar

  • 1 Tsp Salt

  • 1 can Ocean Shredded Tuna

  • Robbertson Fish spice

  • Foodland mayo

  • Soy Sauce for dipping
